The Advanced Coaching course breaks down all of the elements required for a coach to be delivering effective, sustainable and results-based programs.

It enables you to refine and enhance your theoretical coaching knowledge. Understand the practical application and advanced program design.

The course addresses human anatomy, biomechanics, human physiology, energetics and brings it all together within the training theory and practice modules.

Course Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

• Understand muscle physiology and energetics and its application to coaching.

• Understand joint anatomy and basic biomechanics.

• Anatomically assess client movement patterns including the understanding of muscle nomenclature and architecture.

• Grasp the underlying mechanisms and science behind strength and hypertrophy training.

• Assign training variables in accordance with training goals.

• Identify limiting factors to progress and understand how to address them.

• Concisely execute a client and training needs analysis.

• Produce supervised and remote training programs for key demographics.

Content Overview

MODULE 1 - Muscle Physiology and Energetics

This module in conjunction with module two is designed to enable you to understand the physiological responses to exercise, control of physiological responses and effects of training on different physiological systems. How the body utilises fuel in different scenarios and how we can influence this.

The Role of ATP in Muscular Function The Production of ATP Fat Burning Physiology

MODULE 2 - human anatomy

The main aims of this module are to provide you with the knowledge and ability to explore and gain knowledge of human anatomy. Exploring the major systems of the human body, including the musculoskeletal system, the cardiovascular system and the nervous system and how these impact our coaching decisions.

Introduction to Human Anatomy Joint Anatomy and Basic Biomechanics Joint Actions and Movement Classification Mechanical Specificity and Postural Deviations Postural Muscles and Deviations Correcting Posture Part I Correcting Posture Part II Muscular Anatomy Nervous System and Neuromuscular Activity The Cardiorespiratory System

The training theory module provides you with the underpinning knowledge required for effective evidence based programming. It explores the theory of exercise selection and classification before moving into its practical application in module four.

Stages of Adaptation and the Hierarchy of Science Stress and the Stages of Resistance Adaptive Reserve and Principles of Training Factors Involved in Hypertrophy and Strength Training Motor Unit Recruitment and Muscle Fibre Types Hypertrophy Mechanisms of Hypertrophy and Training Variables Part I Mechanisms of Hypertrophy and Training Variables Part II Exercise Selection and Classification Training Tempo and Intent Muscular Strength and Endurance Strength Training Cardiovascular Training Theory Flexibility Analysing Training Systems Musculoskeletal Injuries

Module four gives you the applied knowledge to structure goal specific programs relevant to individuals or group coaching. Not only looking at design but also the factors influencing compliance and the various forms of delivery.

The Art of Program Design Needs Analysis and Assessment Muscle Nomenclature and Architecture Training Compliance Communication and coaching techniques Components of Physical and Motor Fitness Training Priorities and Effective Program Delivery Program Adherence Pre Programming Program Design Framework Goal Specific Training Structures Training Progressions Periodisation Part I Periodisation Part II Goal Setting Cardiovascular Training Part I Cardiovascular Training Part II HIIT Training Circuit and Group Training

Module 5 - Special Populations

The special populations module addresses the coaching of individuals with specific conditions or physiological situations. It addresses musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, ageing populations, pre and post natal, the obese, diabetic populations and the coaching of children.

Obesity Diabetes Paediatric Low Back Pain Pre and Post Natal Exercise
